Congressman Sam Liccardo Calls for Secretary Noem’s Removal

January 26, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the wake of ICE agents murdering Alex Pretti and Renee Good and the repeated unlawful conduct by the Department of Homeland Security, Congressman Sam Liccardo (CA-16) signed articles of impeachment to remove Secretary Kristi Noem. Last week, Liccardo voted against funding of ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.

Liccardo released the following statement:

“As a former federal prosecutor and mayor, I worked with law enforcement every day–courageous women and men who put service above self.   What we see now isn’t law enforcement—it’s lawlessness.

Kristi Noem and her accomplices have unleashed brutality in the service of political ambition, killing American citizens, locking up 5 year-old children, and terrorizing our communities. This conduct warrants independent, criminal investigations of everyone involved, including Secretary Noem herself.

After repeatedly calling for Noem’s resignation, I have now signed onto articles of impeachment, because removing her comprises the first step toward restoring law and order in this country.  There must be more.  Specifically, I would remind Secretary Noem and every ICE official that there is a 5 year statute of limitations for criminal indictment under federal law.”
