Sam Liccardo Sworn In to Serve California’s 16th Congressional District in Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Sam Liccardo took his oath of office to serve California’s 16th Congressional District in the 119th Congress. Liccardo previously served his community as Mayor of San Jose – the Bay Area’s largest city– for two terms, until he termed out in December of 2022. His tenure was characterized by launching innovative and successful approaches to reducing street homelessness, expanding affordable housing, expanding learning and summer job opportunities for low-income youth, resolving chronic budget deficits, launching a 95% GHG-free public electric utility, eliminating the digital divide, preventing gun violence, and preserving open space and hillsides. Liccardo is bringing his solutions-oriented approach – and optimistic outlook – to Washington.
Congressman Liccardo released the following statement:
“When I raised my right hand, promising to preserve and protect our Constitution, my heart swelled with both tremendous gratitude and immense responsibility to the many community members who toiled to make this moment– and this opportunity to serve–possible.
Our nation faces extraordinary challenges in this perilous moment, but we must not overlook our nation’s capacity to meet them. Let’s roll up our sleeves together, and undertake this critical endeavor together.”
