Rep. Sam Liccardo Appointed to House Committee on Financial Services
The rare appointment of a first-term member to an exclusive committee gives the 16th District a powerful voice on one of the most storied Committees in Congress.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Bay Area’s own Rep. Sam Liccardo (CA-16) was appointed to the House Committee on Financial Services. Liccardo is one of only three new members to join the roster, and one of only two first-term Democratic members to receive an appointment to one of the four powerful “exclusive” committees (Ways & Means, Appropriations, Energy & Commerce, and Financial Services).
Rep. Liccardo released the following statement:
“It is an immense honor to be selected to serve the committee that will legislate upon and oversee some of our region’s most pressing issues, such as housing affordability, insurance availability, access to capital, and the impact of monetary policy on inflation.
“Washington needs more mayors focused on achieving real outcomes for hard-working Americans. As a recovering mayor on a crucial committee for bolstering our nation’s banks, commerce, and economy, I’ll be pushing to find concrete ways that we can help struggling renters, first-time homebuyers, frustrated insureds, fast-growing small businesses, and innovation economy employers. Thank you to House leadership for bestowing this rare ‘exclusive committee’ assignment for a rookie legislator – I’m ready to get to work.”
