Liccardo's MEME Act Gains Senate Traction
May 6, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in both the House and Senate, President Trump’s meme coin and the surrounding scheme involving his family took center stage. In February, Representative Sam Liccardo (CA-16) introduced the Modern Emoluments and Malfeasance Enforcement Act (MEME).
In response to a groundswell of support for legislation to address Trump’s corruption in both chambers, Liccardo released the following statement:
“As another famously moral White House occupant, Richard Nixon, once said, ‘the people have got to know whether or not their President is a crook.’ $TRUMP and the other family meme coins are as crooked as schemes come. After months of calling for action to make corruption criminal again, I applaud Senator Chris Murphy and others for joining me in the fight.”
